The Ordinary.

So lets talk “The Ordinary”…or DECIEM or maybe even ‘The Abnormal Beauty Co’ whatever you want to call them I’m sure you’ve heard of them as of recent; if not then where the heck you been!?

The Ordinary is a line of skincare developed by the DECIEM family, specialising in products with scientific technologies that you’d normally expect to see at the high-end of the price scale, instead all of these bottles of magic are super affordable.

The Ordinary tag line: “Clinical formulations with integrity”.

So obviously I had to buy into the hype that I’ve seen all over social media. I bought mine from ASOS purely for the student discount, however with them retailing at approx. £6.00 I think they’re a steal without discount.

Hyaluronic Acid seemed like an obvious choice to me, I love anything that’s going to help with hydration (hydration gunna keep me young). This acid formulation helps to attract up to 1,00 times it’s weight in water; insane right? There’s all this technical fancy jargon about molecule sizes and how they’re absorbed which I find interesting but I’m no scientist so me trying to explain that with my iQ would probably sound like a toddler trying to explain it. Basically what I know: a bunch of different sized molecules help with optimum delivery to the skin with a concentration of 2%, combined with Vitamin B5 which helps the appearance of the skin.

  • Apply a few drops to the palms of your hands.
  • Swipe all over clean skin.
  • Use both AM and PM before oils & creams.

After dedicated usage for just over a month now (both AM & PM) I feel I can give a full un-biased opinion.

It’s pretty simple, I love it!

Taking everything into account, from the simplistic scientific packaging (LOVE) all the way down to the strength of the formulation and of course the price.

Looking for a Hyaluronic acid that’s going to delivery a high strength formulation?…perhaps you’d like to have a look at DECIEM’s sister company  NOID. For a good quality Hyaluronic Acid at an amazingly cheap price then definitely check this out.

Using Hyaluronic Acid in my skincare for years I wasn’t expecting to see a huge difference, however I have noticed that after cleansing my face skin has less of that ‘tight’ feeling. I like to think that’s down to the special molecule delivery from this serum.

I will say, I think I like to use a little more acid than necessary…I’m almost finished this bottle!

I’m a big lover of Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHA), gimme all the acids. Lactic Acid is an AHA that exfoliates the skin. At a strength of 10% this formulation will offer mild at-home exfoliation, which I’m all for. If you’re new to AHA’s you may want to get the lower strength formulation offered at 5%, or dilute the formulation.

Because I’ve been using AHA’s for a long-time my skin has built up a tolerance so I can whack it all on no probs.

This Lactic Acid is also developed with Tasmanian Pepperberry (no me either), apparently this ingredient is known for its inflammatory properties and helping with sensitivity.

I’m obsessed. Simple.

When it comes to AHA treatments its pretty hard to disappoint me. Anything that is going to help rid my old skin to reveal the new me underneath gets a tick from me.

At a percentage of 10% yes it’s not super strong, but mild exfoliation is all you really need when using on a daily basis. You don’t need a fresh sheet of new skin every single day, I mean we aren’t onions like Shrek…reference.

The formulation has a strong chemical fragrance which is to be expected, not to worry it’s undetectable after application.

If you’ve sensitive skin I would in NO WAY recommend this, it would probably sting like a biatch! I’d suggest looking at more ‘motion’ exfoliation, facial scrubs etc.

  • Apply ONLY once per day.
  • Nighttime application is best.
  • Diluted with other treatments if skin isn’t tolerant.
  • Add a few drops to the palms of hands.
  • Swipe all over face, avoid eye area!
  • Do not use on sore or broken skin, if going out into the sun the next day make sure to wear SPF!
